Styes are a common eye condition in
which the tear glands or eyelash follicles become inflamed. This can be due to
clogged dirt or oil which develops into a pimple and causes pain usually upon
blinking. These have pus inside their red-yellow surface which turns white once
the head develops. The pus eventually leaks out however this process may take up
to 7 days. Follow these tips if you are suffering from stye and want to get rid
of them quickly –
1.
Take a Break from Your Contacts
Wearing contact lenses during this time
is a big No-No as it can cause serious eye allergies and inflammations. Switch
to eyeglasses or sunglasses for a while until the swelling subsides. Sunglasses
also protect your eyes from dust or debris in the air and keep away harmful UV
rays which can exaggerate the condition.
2.
Don’t Stress Out
Stress is one of the reasons of stye (also
known as hordeolum). During stress, our bodies release certain hormones/chemicals
which can lead to stye. Stay relaxed and try out helpful ways to cut down
stress like yoga or meditation.
3.
Follow Eye Hygiene
Never forget to clean the infected area.
Remove excess residue from your eyes and clean your face properly before going
to bed. Keep a clean handkerchief with you and change it frequently every day. You
can also use a specialized eye wash or saline solution to do so.
4.
Start Warm Compresses
Dampen a washcloth and gently place it
over the stye for 5 minutes. The warmth from the washcloth will help the stye
to drain quickly. Repeat this 3-4 times a day for faster results.
5.
Consult your doctor for stye ointments
Using antibiotic cream or ointments can
help to cure the style up to some extent. Consult your doctor before doing so
and make sure that the ointment doesn’t enter the eye.
At last, don’t worry! Styes heal on
their own in a week or so and don’t usually cause any vision problem. However,
one should avoid rubbing, popping or rupturing a stye to prevent any eye
infection. In case the style doesn’t heal even after 7 days, consult your eye
doctor. Keep your eyes safe from outside dust by wearing branded Coolwinks sunglasses.
