How to Care for Your Kids Eyesight

Regular exposure to digital screens, poor food habits and disrupted sleep cycles can really affect a kid’s eyesight adversely. If not detected on time, this can lead to irreversible vision problems in children and a life with glasses on his/her face. However, by proper care, you can keep your kid’s eyesight healthy. Here are some ways to do so -

Inculcate Healthy Eating Habits: Unhealthy or unbalanced diet can trigger visual troubles. With nutritional deficiencies of vitamins and minerals, kids can suffer from a weaker sight from early age on. Make sure to add a good amount of green leafy vegetables and fruits in their everyday diet and help in strengthening their eyes from young age itself.

Restrict Screen Time: It is perhaps the most difficult task for parents today. With mobile phones, tablets, laptops available at a hand’s reach, it becomes a challenge for the parents to keep their kids away from the digital screens. Yet, it is a major step to take.

Restrict their screen time to minimum and ask them to take breaks doing so. Make them sit (and not lie down) at a safer distance while watching the screens.

Encourage Playing Outdoors: Adequate amount of sunlight and outdoor play is very necessary for kid’s growth. This not only cuts down screen time but also helps the kids in developing physical strength. Make sure to give them UV protected sunglasses each time they go outside as their eyes are most vulnerable to harmful UV rays.

Take Them for Regular Eye Tests: Take your children for regular eye test every year. This will help in early detection of any vision-related problem in them. It is also possible to treat and cure them better at an early stage.

Keep a Tab on their Lifestyle Changes- Check for signs like incomplete work, headaches, watery eyes or difficulty in reading - which may be a vision-related symptom.

Prevent Eye Injuries: Another reason to give them kids sunglasses is because, they can help in protecting their eyes from any sudden injury or prevent harmful particles from getting inside the eyes. Keep them away from fireworks, chemicals and sprays which may get into the eyes and cause infection or irritation.

Set a Regular Sleep Pattern: Our eyes need proper rest. Irregular sleep patterns can be indicative of many health conditions. Ask your child to switch off the devices at least an hour or two before the sleep timings.

We hope these tips will help you in keeping your child’s eyes safe and healthy all the time. Get branded sunglasses for kids from Coolwinks and keep their eyes safe from harmful UVA & UVB rays.
